Stilts and Traditional Cakes

Paying homage to rich traditions and community

  • Kampong Ayer, Brunei
NOSHtrekker, Stilts and Traditional Cakes

Gregarious, nature-loving and infectiously cheerful, Kemariah (or 'Kem' to all who know her) is the sort of person that brings the sun out. In the village of Kampong Ayer, she manages a bed-and-breakfast that is reknown for going above and beyond the call of duty to share her culture.

Enjoy the feeling of community at this homely experience in the water village of Kapong Ayer. The only way to reach Kem’s home is by ferry, and as you race along the waters, you can’t help but feel like you’re going backwards in time. One of Kem's roles is being a champion for her local community, both in Brunei and beyond. She is fiercely proud of her heritage and culture, and will share her story with plenty of food and generous hospitality.

Morning or Afternoon Tea

Local delicacies will be served, including local snacks made with love by her neighbours.

In Kem’s home, you’ll notice that much of the original furniture and fixtures remain, artfully complemented by knick-knacks picked up from her travels. Although the house is traditionally Bruneian in architecture, its interior is modernised through recycled wooden furniture and French doors. Cultural artefacts adorn the walls, and Kem loves telling the stories behind their purpose and use in her family.

Brunei 2.5 Hours 2 - 6 persons MT
