Chef Kim Hock Su and NOSHtrekker Bring the Award-Winning Malaysian Novel ‘The Garden of Evening Mists’ to the Table
On November 22, 2018, we will be bringing Malaysian author Tan Twan Eng’s award-winning novel The Garden of Evening Mists to the table in Penang, Malaysia, in collaboration with Chef Kim Hock Su of Restaurant Au Jardin.
A Gastronomic & Literary Experience
This literary food experience translates the novel into four-courses and a signature cocktail designed by Chef Kim Hock, with every course reflecting a specific time, place and emotion in the book.
Says author Tan Twan Eng: “The menu reflects a penetrating insight into my book and the complex relationship between its two main characters. Like Aritomo’s garden, Chef Kim Hock’s imaginative and exquisite menu will take diners on a journey of emotions, memory, and the senses.”
“It’s our pleasure to be part of this collaboration with Tan Twan Eng and NOSHtrekker. To narrate a good, locally authored novel like The Garden of Evening Mists is exciting for me and the team. Every dish has been carefully planned and curated to enliven the plot, and make it dimensional for our guests,” says Kim Hock.
Our First Malaysian Experience
This Penang event will be a first in Malaysia for NOSHtrekker and is part of our ‘Eat My Words’ series of NOSHtrekker dining experiences that cooks food from fiction and non-fiction books and interprets text into edible moments.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to bring the creativity of a Penang-born author and a Penang-born chef together in a form that Penang is passionate about – food, With the dinner happening on the same day as the launch of the George Town Literary Festival, we hope that people who love both literature and fine dining will join us for this special event.
The Book, the Chef and Food & Book Lovers
The Garden of Evening Mists was shortlisted in 2012 for the Man Booker prize and won the Man Asian Literary prize. It is currently being adapted for cinema by HBO Asia and produced by Malaysia’s Astro Shaw and Finas (National Film Council of Malaysia).
